Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart
As part of the special exhibition Local Histories and the VOLKSWAGEN ART4ALL series, a discussion about the reenactment of Richard Jackson’s large-format wall mural in the Rieckhallen at the Hamburger Bahnhof will take place on Thursday, 7 February 2019 at 6 pm.
The event looks behind the scenes and walls of a museum and offers insights into the aspects and challenges of working with a contemporary collection. The over 20-metre wide mural created by the US artist Richard Jackson (b. 1939) in 1998/2006 was uncovered again for the first time for the current exhibition Local Histories. In front of the artwork, curator Matilda Felix and conservator Eva Rieß talk about its condition after having been covered for those 12 years and discuss special conservation issues that can arise when dealing with contemporary art.
Since April 2018 admission at the Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart – Berlin has been free on the first Thursday of the month from 4 pm to 8 pm. The initiative, made possible by Volkswagen, a longstanding partner of the Nationalgalerie, offers a diverse event programme as well as additional tours and workshops for children in the current exhibitions.
The following special exhibitions can be visited free of charge on Thursday, 7 February 2019, from 4 pm to 8 pm:
