Pergamonmuseum
From 7 to 9 March 2025, the Pergamonmuseum is again open to visitors. This is a unique moment shortly before the construction work begins: empty rooms and bare brickwork, while at the same time the main attractions are still without their protective enclosures. On the three visitor days, explanatory displays and museum guides provide information about the planned measures and the special aspects of refurbishment work in a listed building.
Please note: The first tickets for the visitor days at the Pergamonmuseum sold out within a few days. On Monday, 3 March 2025, additional ticket contingents will be released for sale at 12 noon. At the same time, opening hours will be extended to 10 am to 10 pm on all three days.
With preparations for the reopening in 2027 already underway in the northern part of the Pergamonmuseum, construction work has now begun in the South Wing and Miletus Hall. The Vorderasiatisches Museum (Museum of the Ancient Near East), the Antikensammlung (Collection of Classical Antiquities), and the Museum für Islamische Kunst (Museum for Islamic Art) have vacated their exhibition spaces for a year. Only the large architectural works remain in the building: the Ishtar Gate, the Processional Way of Babylon and the Market Gate of Miletus.
Beginning in 2027, the Altar Hall, the Hall of Hellenistic Architecture and the Pergamonmuseum North Wing housing the Museum für Islamic Kunst’s new permanent exhibition will reopen to the public. Meanwhile, the South Wing will be refurbished, a new, fourth wing built, and the pedestrian bridge over the Kupfergraben and outdoor facilities repaired, culminating in the reopening the entire museum complex in 2037.
From 2027, access to the partially reopened Pergamonmuseum will be via the northern, Spree-River- section of the Colonnades on the Museum Island, because the Ehrenhof will still be needed as a works set-up yard until all construction has been completed. Therefore, the interim entrance to the museum will be on the eastern side. The ticket counters, checkroom areas, restrooms, and museum store will be set up in the central building below the Altar Hall.
