Beate Salje, Director of the Vorderasiatisches Museum and Nicola Crüsemann, senior curator at the Curt Engelhorn Foundation, Reiss-Engelhorn-Museen, were on hand to greet Anne-Marie Joubert (57) and Jean-Paul Joubert (59) as the 250 000th and 250 001st visitors to the Pergamonmuseum’s current exhibition 'URUK - 5000 Years of the Megacity’. The couple both received the exhibition catalogue and a bunch of flowers.
The Jouberts had travelled from Paris to Berlin to celebrate their fortieth wedding anniversary and to visit the Pergamonmuseum’s Ancient Near Eastern Department: the Vorderasiatisches Museum.
After surprising the visitors at the door, the two curators took the couple on a tour through the exhibition, where they were joined by two further members of the curatorial team: Markus Hilgert, Chairperson of the German Oriental Society and future director of the Vorderasiatisches Museum, and Margaret van Ess, Director of the Oriental Department at the German of Archaeological Institute and head of excavations in Uruk/Warka.
