Until June 2020, back on ARTE: The Art of Museums – The Alte Nationalgalerie

Alte Nationalgalerie

A virtual stroll though the world’s most beautiful museums: in the series The Art of Museums, ARTE showcases eight of the most important museums in the world. One of these is the Alte Nationalgalerie, whose history and highlights are presented to viewers in the episode The Art of Museums – The Alte Nationalgalerie.

The film accompanies Katharina Grosse, a major contemporary artist, as she walks through the Alte Nationalgalerie. She talks about the impact of pictures such as The Monk by the Sea by Caspar David Friedrich and In the Conservatory by Edouard Manet. The documentary also tells the story of the museum, which has lived through the highs and lows of German history.

You can watch the film The Art of Museums – The Alte Nationalgalerie online on ARTE until 22 June 2020.
