Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart
The “Tools to Transform” Workbook is launching on 21 May 2021 from 12 noon to 1:30 pm as a free online resource about South, Southeast and East Asian communities in Europe. In a discussion organised for that occasion, workbook contributors Claire Chou Doran, daikon* , Maya Bhardwaj and Vicky Truong highlight practices of intra- and intercommunity solidarity.

The project was co-initiated and editorially supported by Rosalia Namsai Engchuan, who, since 2021, has been a Goethe-Institut Fellow for the exhibition Nation, Narration, Narcosis: Collecting Entanglements and Embodied Histories at Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart – Berlin. This exhibition represents a dialogue initiated by the Goethe-Institut between the collections of the Nationalgalerie – Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, the Galeri Nasional Indonesia, the MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum and the Singapore Art Museum. The exhibitions are curated by Anna-Catharina Gebbers, Grace Samboh, Gridthiya Gaweewong and June Yap.
Tools to Transform is a workbook for Asian Diaspora Organisations in Europe. Published by eight Asian grassroots networks, it contains contributions from ten organisers and collectives working with South, Southeast, and East Asian communities in Europe about their thinking, strategies and practices.
The workbook is available as a free online resource, and is intended for artists, curators, educators and anyone interested in organising projects and events around the Asian diaspora and building intra- and intercommunity solidarity.

The Tools to Transform project was initiated by Joon Lynn Goh & Annie Jael Kwan of Asia Art Activism, in partnership with Sarnt Utamachote & Rosalia Namsai Engchuan of un.thai.tled, Farzana Khan of Healing Justice Ldn, Thao Ho of D.A.M.N (Deutsche Asiat*innen, Make Noise!), Dr. Joyce Jiang from The Voice of Domestic workers, Litchi Ly Friedrich from House of Saint Laurent Europe, and Nguyễn Thanh Thủy & Stefan Östersjö of The Six Tones.
The project is supported by the European Cultural Foundation through its Culture of Solidarity Award, the University of York and the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).
