250,000 people have already visited the James-Simon-Galerie in the first month since it opened its doors. Currently, with the Pergamonmuseum undergoing refurbishments, the Museumsinsel’s new reception building is the only entry point to the Pergamonmuseum. For security reasons, only 550 people are allowed to visit the museum at any one time. In order to avoid long queues, from now on, the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin is offering entry to the Pergamonmuseum with timed tickets only.
Entry tickets and free timed tickets are available for pre-purchase online, at all ticket desks of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, at the Berlin Tourist Info offices run by Visit Berlin, and at many Berlin hotels.
Subject to availability, visitors with a Museumsinselticket, Museumspass Berlin, Berlin WelcomeCard Museumsinsel, Berlin WelcomeCard all inclusive, or with Staatliche Museen zu Berlin annual passes can book a free timed ticket online (also on mobile devices), and at an express ticket desk in the upper foyer of the James-Simon-Galerie.
The time slots are usually booked out until the afternoon. For this reason, we recommend that people looking to visit without planning in advance should do so after 3 p.m. or during extended opening hours on Thursdays, when the museum is open until 8 p.m.
Pergamonmuseum: Das Panorama presents masterpieces of the ancient metropolis and a monumental 360° panorama of the city of Pergamon by Yadegar Asisi, as well as a 3D simulation of the Pergamon Altar, which, due to restoration work, is currently unable to be seen in the original.
A free multimedia exhibition on the lower floor of the James-Simon-Galerie provides information about the history of the Museumsinsel and its collections.
Along with the world-famous Nefertiti Bust, the Neues Museum presents a rich collection of objects from Ancient Egypt, as well as treasures from prehistory and early history, from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages.
CU29, the café and restaurant in the James-Simon-Galerie, welcomes guests daily from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. The museum shop offers an enticing range of publications and merchandise to suit every taste.
