An interdisciplinary conference organized by the SMB’s Gemäldegalerie, the Kunsthistorisches Institut at the Freie Universität and the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz (Max-Planck Institute)

The Gemäldegalerie of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, the Kunsthistorisches Institut of the Freie Universität Berlin, and the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz (Max Planck Institute) have joined forces to hold an interdisciplinary conference on the 26 and 27 January, 2017. The conference is taking place as part of the research project, funded by the Gerda Henkel Foundation, entitled: “The Names of the Artist: Artist Signatures in Europe from the Middle Ages to the 18th Century”.

This event aims to open up new perspectives on the problems of the artist’s authorship and identity, as well as on the social status and the intellectual horizon of artists in various geographical and cultural European milieus.

The conference is public, admission is free. Registration not required.
