The James-Simon-Galerie Wins the Architekturpreis Beton in 2020

The central reception building on the Museumsinsel Berlin, designed by David Chipperfield Architects, has been awarded the Architekturpreis Beton in 2020.

Built from plans by David Chipperfield Architects, the James-Simon-Galerie on the Museumsinsel Berlin (Museum Island) has won the 2020 Architekturpreis Beton, an architectural prize for structures made out of concrete.

An interdisciplinary jury ‒ whose members included Susanne Wartzeck, president of the Bund Deutscher Architekten (BDA, Association of German Architects) ‒ considered 143 submissions in selecting four equally ranked winning projects (among them the James-Simon-Galerie) and four awards.

The InformationsZentrum Beton has been awarding the prize in cooperation with the Bund Deutscher Architekten (BDA) since 1974. It honours outstanding achievements in architecture and engineering; works whose quality is shaped by the design, construction and technological possibilities that concrete offers as a building material.
