Tehran exhibition cancelled

The exhibition The Tehran Collection: The Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art in Berlin at the Gemäldegalerie of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin cannot take place as planned.

As Hermann Parzinger, President of the Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz (SPK), announced, the cooperation agreement with the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art has been terminated by the SPK.

The SPK has always laid great importance on fostering the cultural dialogue between the Nationalgalerie and the Tehran Museum. The exhibition was indeed an idea born of both museums. We enormously regret that we have now been forced to take this step. It came to the point that it was necessary because Iran has yet to grant an export license for the works of art. It became untenable to cause further delays to the Staatliche Museen’s exhibition planning for the year.
