Kulturforum
To celebrate the exhibition Food Revolution 5.0: Design for Tomorrow’s Society in the Kunstgewerbemuseum, from Thursday 21 June until Sunday 24 June the Piazetta at the Kulturforum was transformed into a vibrant marketplace, with pop-up food stalls, market stands, and a diverse programme of events for children and families. For the Fête de la Musique on Thursday 21 June 2018, the Summer Food Market opened to the swinging rhythms of a concert by the Rufus Temple Orchestra.
The Summer Food Market at the Kulturforum hosted four days of gastronomy, relaxing, participation and discussion – with culinary treats, tastings and market and lunch talks by and with agricultural producers, street-food vendors and initiatives and organizations that deal with nutrition-related issues. Entry to the Summer Food Market was free.
The culinary offerings ranged from Syrian and Swabian street food to snacks made of seaweed and insects, currywurst from local saddleback pigs, freshly baked bread from an old mobile military bakery, regional tapas and cocktails, Berlin craft beer, ice cream from milk from Jersey cows from the glacial valley of Baruth, fair trade coffee and hand-made sweets. At the long table on the Piazetta, there were discussions about the State of Berlin’s nutritional strategy plan, as well as tastings and workshops featuring seaweed and sea vegetables, fermented Japanese foodstuffs, sausages and craft beer. Children got to learn how to make their own veggie burger at home.
A second Summer Food Market will take place from 23 to 26 August 2018 to coincide with the Lange Nacht der Museen (Saturday 25 August 2018).
