Kulturforum

On Wednesday, 7 June 2023, the open-air cinema season begins again at the Kulturforum with the ARTE Summer Cinema. From June to the end of August 2023, the most popular films of recent months are being shown on a giant screen between the Philharmonie and the Neue Nationalgalerie. Tickets are available online, remaining tickets can be purchased at the evening box office.

As in past seasons, the Yorck Group, which organises the summer cinema event in collaboration with the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin and the German-French cultural television channel ARTE, has put together a varied and entertaining programme:

  • A brilliant open-air cinema start is assured with the preview of ’The Crime is Mine’ on 7 June 2023 – a witty comedy about Parisian show business in the 1930s with a top-class cast around Isabelle Huppert and Dany Boon.
  • In addition to screenings and previews attended by film crews, the Surf Film Night is back.
  • Another highlight of this year’s edition is the special screening of ‘Art Lovers Unite!’: Vivien Westwood joins fashion YouTuber Dacob on a journey through art history during a tour of the Gemäldegalerie.

In addition to drinks and snacks, blankets are available for sale on cooler evenings.

Summer Cinema

In the summer of 2002 and 2003, the most popular cinema films of the previous months were presented once again as part of the Museum Film Festival. In the following years, the open-air cinema moved to the Museumsinsel Berlin. In 2007, it returned to the Kulturforum under the direction of the Yorck Group. Since then, the most appealing films of the past months, original versions, previews and film series about ongoing museum exhibitions have been shown here every year, sometimes with the actors in attendance.
