Large posters of works of art from the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin have been hanging at the six Berlin vaccination centres since the beginning of June. The images linked to the advertising campaign for the reopening of the museums were specially prepared for these locations. Dilek Kalayci, Hermann Parzinger and Michael Eissenhauer jointly introduced the ad campaign during an on-site viewing at the Tegel Vaccination Centre.
The images printed on the large, 2x1 m posters show works from the Gemäldegalerie, Pergamonmuseum, Alte Nationalgalerie and Neues Museum. Under the hashtag #endlichwiederoffen (finally open again), the ad campaign playfully singles out the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin venues that reopened their doors on 21 May.
The Berlin Senate’s easing of restrictive lockdown measures that led to the reopening of numerous Staatliche Museen zu Berlin venues and the Musikinstrumenten-Museum des Staatlichen Instituts für Musikforschung (Berlin Musical Instrument Museum of the National Institute for Music Research) is accompanied by an ad campaign. Under the motto ‟Endlich wieder offen für …”, well-known objects and images from the museum collections have been combined with German wordplay taken from everyday digital life. A total of 8 images are on display in Berlin’s urban spaces, while another 13 are making their debut via social media.
The ad campaign developed by the Viennese design agency Büro X was made possible with funding from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media. Several images were specially chosen and redesigned for the vaccination centres.
