01.09.2017
Kunstgewerbemuseum

During a special two-day exhibition held on 12/13 September 2017, the Kunstgewerbemuseum will showcase the 129 entries to this year’s German Federal Ecodesign Award.

On 12 and 13 September, the Kunstgewerbemuseum will offer its visitors an opportunity to learn more about sustainable design and to gain insights into the selection process of the German Federal Ecodesign Award. On 11 September, the jury of the annual contest will meet in the special exhibition area of the museum. Following this, the exhibition ‘German Federal Ecodesign Award 2017: Heading towards the Future with Creative Courage and Sustainable Ideas: Special Exhibition during Jury Session’ will be open to the public for two days. This special exhibition will present innovative and forward-looking projects in the fields of architecture, nutrition, mobility, communication, and fashion. On the morning of 12 September, visitors can partake in a guided tour of the exhibition.

Of the altogether 324 contributions submitted to this year’s competition, 129 made it to the second round and will be presented to the jury in September. Specialists from the Federal Environment Agency (UBA) as well as the advisory council make this preselection. Visitors will learn which submissions convinced the interdisciplinary jury and now rank among the nominees. The winners will be honoured and celebrated on 27 November 2017 at an awards ceremony in the German Federal Ministry for the Environment. Over the following year, a touring exhibition shown at fairs as well as in museums will allow the public to learn about the winning entries.

The German Federal Ecodesign Award will be given this year for the sixth time. It is awarded to products, concepts, and services that tackle our current ecological challenges with good ideas and convincing designs. The Federal Ministry for the Environment and the UBA award the prize in cooperation with the Internationales Design Zentrum Berlin e.V.
