Humboldt Forum
On Thursday, 2 June 2022 from 11 am to 9:45 pm, the Humboldt Forum, together with the German International Ethnographic Film Festival, will show seven films shot in Mali, Cameroon, India, Brazil, the USA and Papua New Guinea.
In ethnographic film, the strict separation between the filmmaker and the filmed subject is broken down. Each of the seven ethnographic films being shown at the Humboldt Forum were made by the people in front of as well as behind the camera, in a cooperative, creative way. In these collaborative film projects, the focus is on transparent decision-making structures and the shared goals of those involved.
Following the screening of the five film blocks, talks will be held with the participants about the complexity of the relationships between filmmakers and the people they film. Dorothee Wenner will moderate the event.
All films will be shown in the original languages (Bambara, French, Hindi, Portuguese and Tok Pisin) with English subtitles.
The “Slices of Life” film day is a collaboration between the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin’s Ethnologisches Museum, the Stiftung Humboldt Forum im Berliner Schloss and the German International Ethnographic Film Festival (GIEFF).
