Museumsinsel Berlin
On 13 October 2019, conservator-restorers from the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin offer special insights into their work at seven venues to mark the Second European Day of Conservation-Restoration. The programme includes guided tours of exhibitions, conservation-restoration workshops and storage facilities on the Museumsinsel. A family programme will be offered at the Neues Museum (New Museum) as well.
Conservator-restorers research the materiality and production techniques of artworks and undertake measures to preserve them. Usually working behind the scenes, they now present their work to the interested public as part of the the European Day of Conservation-Restoration. This opens up new perspectives on works from the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin collections and on the museum as an institution.
The programme of events at the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin for the Second European Day of Conservation-Restoration takes place at seven venues:
Altes Museum
Neues Museum
Alte Nationalgalerie
Pergamonmuseum
Bode-Museum
James-Simon-Galerie
Archäologisches Zentrum
An overview of the offerings at the individual museums is available here.
Participation in an event is free of charge with a valid museum ticket. However, due to the limited number of participants, registration for most events is required.
