Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart
This June the third presentation in the series Rundgang 50Hertz is taking place. As in the past two years, a jury has chosen three quite diverse works to display at 50Hertz headquarters. These projects were originally conceived as final graduate presentations at art academies in Berlin, Hamburg and Leipzig.
Adrian Altintas (b. 1989, a graduate of the HfbK Hamburg) represents a painterly position. He uses his mobile phone to capture random impressions he comes across in daily life. Their subjects could be inspired by illuminated advertising or an internet post. Altintas uses his private archive of imagery to generate paintings, which he subsequently conceals behind cotton cloth. His works consist in effect of a double layer of canvas enclosing a space approximately 7 cm wide.
Cora Czarnecki (b. 1990, a graduate of the HGB Leipzig) is part of a music collective: a group of about 10 people who create music, videos and performances together in changing constellations. We encounter her rap music at concerts, in an exhibition space or through exchanges on the platforms of social media. In her graduate project, Czarnecki spent more than two years interviewing members of the collective and sorted her recordings into four topics: Crew, Money & Care, Masks and Depression.
Thomas Mader (b. 1984, a graduate of the Berlin University of the Arts, UdK) works with installations. His Master’s degree project deals with hedge funds and strategies for maximising profits. He began by looking at profit maximisation practices that exist in a legal grey zone. Although such business conduct cannot be held legally accountable, Mader observed that it is highly suspect from a social perspective. He then sought out materials to convey this ambivalence.
An exhibition series of the Nationalgalerie – Staatliche Museen zu Berlin in cooperation with 50Hertz.
