Zentralarchiv

The reading room in the Zentralarchiv of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin will reopen on 25 May 2020. It will be open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:30 am to 5 pm to a reduced number of visitors. When planning your visit, please take note of the additional conditions of entry that have been introduced in order to reduce the risk of infection.

Booking

You can book a visit to the reading room via email (za[at]smb.spk-berlin.de) or by telephone (030 266 42 5701). Because we only have a limited number of spots available and want to ensure that everything runs as smoothly as possible, entry to the reading room is only permitted with a confirmed booking.

A maximum of 10 archive items can be requested per person, per day. With the correct call numbers, you can book a visit and request the relevant archive items up until 2 pm on the (business) day before your visit. If your visit requires research to be carried out, please get in touch well ahead of time.

Hygiene and Safety Measures

When visiting the reading room in the Archäologisches Zentrum, where the Zentralarchiv is located, you must respect the regulations on social distancing and hygiene, and not be presenting any of the typical symptoms of COVID-19:

  • For your own safety and that of our staff, both in the public areas of the building (foyer, stairwell, lift, cloak room, bathrooms) and in the reading room, you must wear a face covering over both your nose and mouth at all times.
  • Please wash your hands upon entering the building and once you have dropped off your belongings at the cloak room.
  • For the safety of all concerned, you must enter the reading room one at a time.
  • Maintain a distance of at least 1.5 m to other people at all times.
  • Please do not come to the museum if you are showing symptoms of an acute respiratory illness.
