Museum Europäischer Kulturen
The EU-financed project 'Entrepreneurial Cultures in European Cities' was held from 2008 to 2010. Ten museums and cultural organizations from eight European cities were involved in the project, among them our own Museum Europäischer Kulturen (Museum of European Cultures).
Participating organizations, spread across various cities in Europe, conducted research into the owners of small and medium-sized businesses and their potential. It was the first time such an endeavour was undertaken and it primarily concentrated on the economic, social, and cultural strategies of small business owners who came from diverse immigrant backgrounds.
On another level, the project studied the interaction between business owner and customer, with the latter also usually coming from an immigrant background. Intercultural dialogue was thus key to the project.
The project resulted in the publication Entrepreneurial Cultures in Europe. Stories and Museum Projects from Seven Cities, which gives a vivid impression of the work the various projects conducted on the ground, as well as outlining the various methods they applied, the intercultural and interdisciplinary exchange and the discussions that ensued. The publication also draws together all their separate findings (as presented in exhibitions, on websites, and at events).
