Provenance Research Day: 10 April 2019 at Museum Berggruen

Museum Berggruen

Guided tours of the exhibition "The Lives of Images: Provenances at Museum Berggruen" to celebrate Provenance Research Day

On 10 April 2019, the first ever Provenance Research Day will take place, a project that was set in motion by the Arbeitskreis Provenienzforschung e.V. Right across Germany and Europe, more than 70 cultural institutions will take part in activities, offering a contemporary glimpse into some of the key questions and outcomes of investigations into the origins of their collections and the objects that make them up.

Three guided tours through the exhibition "The Lives of Images"

To celebrate this day, provenance researchers and curators Doris Kachel and Sven Haase will be offering three guided tours of the exhibition "The Lives of Images: Provenances at Museum Berggruen: Picasso – Klee – Braque – Matisse", which focuses on the histories behind the artworks in this collection.

  • Tours start at: 11 am, 2 pm and 4 pm

  • Meeting point: the foyer of Museum Berggruen, Schlossstraße 1, 14059 Berlin

  • Duration: approx. 60 minutes

Participation in a tour is included in the price of admission to Museum Berggruen. Participant numbers are limited to 20 people per tour.

Outside of the tours though, the curators will also be on hand on 10 April to answer questions about the exhibition and about provenance research more generally.

Future Activity Days

The provenance research activity day is to become an on-going fixture, and will take place every year on the second Wednesday in April. The aim is to raise public awareness about the social and scholarly importance of provenance research, and to teach audiences about the diverse lines of inquiry and methodologies used in this field of research.

The activity day is coordinated by the Arbeitskreis Provenienzforschung e.V.
