Kupferstichkabinett
Fourteen 19th-century watercolours by Carl Graeb depicting Muskauer Park (Park Mużakowski) will be on view in the study room at the Kupferstichkabinett (Museum of Prints and Drawings) on 24 March 2023. The pop-up exhibition will be on display from 10 am to noon and from 1‒4 pm in the Kupferstichkabinett study room – for only one day.
The ‟Fürst-Pückler-Park Bad Muskau” foundation is visiting Berlin. Select examples from a watercolour series long believed lost and rediscovered in 2018 show views of Muskauer Park by the Prussian court painter Carl Graeb (1816–1884). They are being presented for the first time at the Kupferstichkabinett – Staatliche Museen zu Berlin. The fourteen artworks, some of which were unknown until now, depict scenes of Muskauer Park in its prime, during the second half of the 19th century. It is not just Graeb’s true-to-life depictions that are fascinating; the captivating colours and lighting the artist used to render diverse moods in the park landscapes are especially effective. Even now, the images are literally brought to light.
