21.05.2021
Gemäldegalerie

The exhibition Late Gothic – The Birth of Modernity at Berlin’s Gemäldegalerie focuses on the art of the 15th century in the German-speaking world. In conversation with WELTKUNST editor-in-chief Lisa Zeitz and senior editor Sebastian Preuss, the curators of the exhibition discuss the major themes and most outstanding works of the transitional phase between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. A podcast by WELTKUNST and the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin.

#1 End and Beginning

The first episode of the podcast has already been released. The late Gothic era and modernity: one age draws to a close and a new one begins. Julien Chapuis, Provisional Director of the Gemäldegalerie and Skulpturensammlung, speaks with Sebastian Preuss about tradition and upheaval, the influence of Flemish painting, and about why he finds a depiction of the Annunciation by Tilman Riemenschneider so personally moving.
