"Pergamon and the Hellenistic of Kingdoms of the Ancient World" on show from 18 April at the Met

The exhibition "Pergamon and the Hellenistic of Kingdoms of the Ancient World" is on show from 18 April until 17 July 2016 at the Metropolitan Museum in New York. The Staatliche Museen's Antikensammlung is the biggest lender to the exhibition and has provided 265 loans.

The conquests of Alexander the Great transformed the ancient world, making trade and cultural exchange possible over long distances. For the first time in the United States, a major international exhibition has gone on show, focussing on the amazing richness, excellent craftsmanship, and technical achievements of the Hellenistic Period (336-30 BC).

On 5 May, a symposium will be held to coincide with the exhibition, entitled: "Art of the Hellenistic Kingdoms: From Pergamon to Rome". Held in the Metropolitan Museum, the symposium kicks off with a keynote lecture by Hermann Parzinger, President of the SPK (Prussian Cultural Heritage, which oversees the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin). Other speakers from the Berlin collections include: Andreas Scholl, director of the Antikensammlung, and Agnes Schwarzmeier, curator at the Antikensammlung.
