Opening of 8th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art

28.05.2014
Dahlem

The 8th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art opens on 28 May 2014. It brings together local and international artists whose work investigates the overlapping layers between larger historical narratives and the life of the individual.

The 8th Berlin Biennale runs from 29 May to 3 August 2014. This year’s exhibition venues are: Haus am Waldsee, KW Institute for Contemporary Art, and the Dahlem museums of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin.

The Biennale will be officially opened by Hermann Parzinger, President of the Stiftung Preussischer Kulturbesitz, together with Monika Grütters, Minister of Culture, Gabriele Horn, Director of the KW, Hortensia Völckers, Artistic Director of the Kulturstiftung des Bundes, and the show’s curator Juan A. Gaitán.

The Berlin Biennale is one of the most important events in the contemporary-art calendar, not just in Germany, but the world. It is held every two years at varying locations in Berlin and is characterized each time by a different curatorial concept, devised by rotating guest curators. The Berlin Biennale is organized by the KW and sponsored by the Kulturstiftung des Bundes, Germany’s national arts fund.
