Open House: Free Admission to Hamburger Bahnhof from 13 to 15 June 2025

23.05.2025
Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart

For the third time, Hamburger Bahnhof invites everyone to the big Open House summer festival with free admission. An extensive programme complements the admission-free exhibition visit: Every full and half hour there will be overview tours, family tours and a museum parkour in German or English with German sign language. Open House tours take a look behind the scenes, with backstage tours showing the management offices and the restoration workshop opening its doors. Art educators invite visitors to join spontaneous conversations and short guided tours in various languages. The Walther König bookstore are having an exclusive special book sale.

Exhibitions for Open House 2025

From Friday, 13 June, Toyin Ojih Odutola will show large-format narrative portraits at Hamburger Bahnhof in her first solo exhibition in Germany, entitled U22 – Adijatu Straße. In addition, Susan Philipsz will present the annual addition to the collection for the Endless Exhibition, a sound installation in the museum garden.

From Saturday, 14 June, the 13th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art opens its doors at Hamburger Bahnhof, among other venues, this year for the second time. This edition of the Berlin Biennale is curated by Zasha Colah and will be hosted at Hamburger Bahnhof until 14 September 2025. Throughout the weekend visitors can also view free of charge the special exhibitions by Ayoung Kim (until 20 July 2025) and Klára Hosnedlová (until 26 October 2025), as well as the collection exhibitions Nationalgalerie: A Collection for the 21st Century in the West Wing, Joseph Beuys: Works from the Nationalgalerie and, for the first time during the Open House in the Rieckhallen, Museum in Motion.

Three Days of Free Admission

Following cancellation of Museum Sunday in Berlin, Hamburger Bahnhof will continue to offer admission-free events such as the Open House, as well as permanent admission-free areas such as the Forum Hamburger Bahnhof and the Endless Exhibition.

The Open House is an invitation to the city community and a thank you for the public’s great interest last year. With this admission-free weekend, Hamburger Bahnhof, which celebrates its 30th anniversary next year, is signalling the importance of Berlin’s cultural landscape.

The Open House and free admission are made possible by Burger Collection, Hong Kong, and TOY Freunde.
