Open Call until 1 October 2023: “ALL HANDS ON: Basketry” – Artisans in Residence

Museum Europäischer Kulturen

The Museum of European Cultures (MEK) invites five basket weavers, craftspeople, designers and artists who use the technique of weaving in their work to take part in two-week residencies in Berlin, Germany.

The residencies are part of the accompanying programme of the exhibition “ALL HANDS ON: Basketry”. In the four thematic sections People, Protection, Material and Pattern, this exhibition explores the history(s), functions and traditions of the craft of basketry through over 200 objects, various media stations and 10 hands-on stations. Resident are invited to engage with the content and objects of the exhibition during their stay and to incorporate this engagement into a work to be produced as part of the residency. They can use the MEK's collection database for their research and, if they wish, work with objects from the depots. The staff of the museum will support them.
