Gemäldegalerie
On Monday, 30 August 2010 Caravaggio's 'The Taking of Christ' was officially handed over in the Gemäldegalerie by the Berlin Senator for Justice, Gisela von der Aue, to the Ukrainian Home Secretary, Anatoliy Mogiliov, who accepted the painting on behalf of the Ukraine. Also in attendance were the director of the Gemäldegalerie, Prof. Bernd W. Lindemann, along with representatives from both the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) and Berlin police authorities, as well as the public prosecution service.

In a confidential joint operation between the Federal Criminal Police Office, local police authorities, and the Berlin public prosecution service, the painting, known as 'The Taking of Christ' or 'The Kiss of Judas', that was stolen from the Museum of Western and Eastern Art in Odessa, Ukraine, in 2008, was successfully recovered on 25 June 2010 and four members of an international criminal gang arrested. The National Museum's Gemäldegalerie lent its support to the operation by holding the work in its restoration studio to get the painting, damaged in the theft, in a state fit for transport back to the Ukraine.
