New Virtual Tour: “Donatello: Inventor of the Renaissance”

The exhibition “Donatello: Inventor of the Renaissance” (2 September 2022 – 8 January 2023) in the Gemäldegalerie of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin now remains open digitally through a virtual tour. The collaboration between the Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi, the Museo Nazionale del Bargello in Florence and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London was the first exhibition dedicated to the sculptor in Germany.

All texts and audio guides are available in German and English, and around 50 of the exhibited sculptures and paintings can be explored through high-resolution imagery. Users can navigate the panorama independently or follow the curator’s tour through the exhibition. Various indices allow users to search for artists, works and catalogue numbers. Just like in the exhibition space itself, it is also possible to visit the Gemäldegalerie’s permanent collection through entering the adjacent rooms.

In addition to the exhibition spaces in the Gemäldegalerie, rooms 61 and 62 of the Bode-Museum can also be visited virtually. Donatello’s works, such as the famous Pazzi Madonna, as well as those of his contemporaries have been exhibited in these rooms in a new installation begun in 2017. During the exhibition at the Kulturforum, restored works from the artist’s circle, which had previously been kept in storage, went on display in these galleries.

The menu bar at the bottom of the screen allows easy access to all information and functions, and offers a quick guide to the use of the application.

The Kaiser Friedrich Museumsverein (KFMV) supports the Skulpturensammlung (Sculpture Collection) in the Bode Museum and the Gemäldegalerie of the Staatliche Museen Berlin at the Kulturforum. The panorama tour was captured and realized by its member Wolfgang Gülcker on behalf of the KFMV.
