New Presentation of the Kunstkammer Würth at the Bode-Museum in Summer 2022

The Permanent Exhibition of the Skulpturensammlung (Sculpture Collection) at the Bode-Museum has been enhanced by loans from the Kunstkammer Würth since 2006. The newly arranged presentation, reinstalled in the summer of 2022, features 30 sculptures from the constantly growing collection of the entrepreneur and art collector Reinhold Würth. Among these works are 14 objects that have never been on view at the Bode-Museum – including numerous spectacular new acquisitions.

New Presentation in Summer 2022

The successful, and in the meantime, 16-year continuing cooperation is now experiencing a further highlight through the new presentation installed in summer 2022. Among the most exquisite purchases in recent years is the stucco relief of The Holy Family by the Augsburg Renaissance artist Hans Daucher (1486‒1538); the Rape of Persephone by the ivory carver Matthias Steinl (c. 1644‒1727), who worked at the royal court in Vienna; as well as the Laocoön by the ivory carver Leonhard Kern (1588‒1662), who was born in Forchtenberg, Germany and worked and died in Schwäbisch Hall. Reinhold Würth has always regarded the latter as one of his “house saints” because the collector feels especially connected to artists from his native Hohenlohe region.

Loans from the Kunstkammer Würth at the Bode-Museum since 2006

When the Bode-Museum reopened in October 2006, Reinhold Würth initially made available a selection of 28 works from his Kunstkammer (art collection) to the Skulpturensammlung in Berlin. The loans, originally approved for only three years, were so popular with visitors that the contract was repeatedly extended. The presentation at the Bode-Museum has been constantly enhanced and updated with outstanding new objects.

The Collector and Patron Reinhold Würth

The entrepreneur and art collector Prof Dr (honoris causa multiplex) Reinhold Würth has been a generous and faithful supporter of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin for many years. His collection primarily focuses on the areas of classical modernism and contemporary art, and yet Würth has repeatedly shown interest in masterworks from earlier epochs.
