Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart
A recorded conversation with artist Sung Tieu about her sound-image research is the fifth instalment of the Volkswagen ART4ALL Online Edition.
As one of the artists interweaving sound and images on an equal footing in their video installations, Sung Tieu is participating in the upcoming group exhibition, Magical Soup. Media Art from the Nationalgalerie Collection, the Friedrich Christian Flick Collection im Hamburger Bahnhof and Loans.
In the context of her multimedia, multichannel work No Gods, No Masters (2017), to be exhibited at Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart – Berlin starting in September, Sung Tieu talks with the exhibition’s curator Anna-Catharina Gebbers about how she captures field recordings, sound rituals and the sound of ghosts. Sung Tieu’s work is based on intuitive research into personal, socio-political and historical narratives, which she makes tangible in reserved and, at the same time, emotionally-charged visual spaces as well as in ordinary sounding, yet simultaneously threatening, soundscapes.
Since April 2020, Volkswagen ART4ALL, the interdisciplinary and publicly accessible programme of lectures, screenings, conversations with artists, performances and multilingual guided tours, is presented as an online edition in the form of a podcast on the first Thursday of every month. The project is made possible by Volkswagen. Curated by Natalie Keppler.
