New Online Offers for the Exhibition „Plain Talk: About the History of the Bode-Museum“

27.11.2020
Skulpturensammlung und Museum für Byzantinische Kunst

Since 2 November 2020 all the museums of Staatliche Museen zu Berlin have been closed to the public until further notice. This closure has also affected the special exhibition Plain Talk: About the History of the Bode-Museum, which was supposed to open on 18 November 2020 but will start after the museums reopen.

Until that time, visitors can gain insights into the exhibition online. Moreover, a number of free downloads of informational texts on selected topics and works, and a chronological overview of the museum’s history are also available on the website.

The exhibition takes visitors on a journey back in time through the history of one of the most renowned museums in Germany. Like the city of Berlin itself, the Bode-Museum survived two World Wars, the National Socialist era and the division of Germany. Major moments of contemporary history are reflected in the museum, and the exhibition critically examines them using objects, documents and photographs – some of which that have never been on view. The development of the museum, its role in the city, and in this day and age are traced and elucidated. Four central main focuses are featured in the exhibition: the collections, the building, research, and the viewing public.

Important restoration and conservation measures as well as art-technological examinations presented in the exhibition were made possible by the generous support of the Ernst von Siemens Kunststiftung.
