New Loans from the Heinz Kuckei Collection in the Gemäldegalerie

07.06.2018
Gemäldegalerie

The Gemäldegalerie receives a generous loan of ten high quality paintings by Dutch 17th century masters from the Heinz Kuckei Collections Foundation. Comprising important works from the Rembrandt workshop, by Jan Steen and Adriaen Ostade, the paintings complement the Gemäldegalerie’s collection.

Heinz Kuckei (1918-2010) was a collector active in Berlin from the 1970s to his death. The basis of the collection was formed by his father-in-law Walter Heilgendorff (1882-1945) in the 1920s. Advised by Wilhelm von Bode and Max J. Friedländer, he bought many important works, to which his son-in-law Heinz Kuckei would add in the 1970s. Starting on June 26th 2018, the 100th birthday of Heinz Kuckei, the ten loans from the private collection will be on display in the Wandelhalle, the central exhibition hall of the Gemäldegalerie, before being integrated into the museum’s collection in early 2019.
