Gipsformerei – Kunstmanufaktur seit 1819
The Staatliche Museen zu Berlin is launching its first ever 3D virtual exhibition tour: the special exhibition Near Life: The Gipsformerei – 200 Years of Casting Plaster, which closed in early March 2020 in the James-Simon-Galerie, is now opening its doors once more in the virtual realm. Through a collaboration with Studio Jester Blank (Berlin), an immersive 3D tour of the exhibition has been produced that sets new milestones in terms of the range and quality of the digital reproductions.
Unlike in 360° tours, which work with 2D images, the 3D exhibition Near Life draws on 3D laser scanning and photogrammetry technology. Through the 3D imaging of the room from 3,000 different perspective points, the exhibits can be viewed from all sides. Visitors can move freely around the exhibition space and explore the exhibition and its extraordinary objects as if they were really there in the James-Simon-Galerie. Additionally, 20 exhibits can be viewed in even higher resolution renderings. More in-depth audio and text content provide additional contextual information about these objects.
