As part of the project Multaqa: Museum as Meeting Point – Refugees as Guides in Berlin Museums, as of 2015 Syrian and Iraqi refugees have been trained as museum guides, to allow them to provide guided tours for Arabic-speaking refugees in their native language. As such, Multaqa (Arabic for “meeting point”) is about fostering dialogue and sharing a range of cultural and historical experiences.
The growing demand for special German and English-language tours provided the impetus to expand the weekly Multaqa tours, and from August 2018, regular tours will now take place in German and English.
The Multaqa guides are now offering
All tours start at 3 p.m. in each of the participating museums.
The Arabic-speaking Multaqa tours continue every Saturday at 3 p.m.
The participating museums are the Museum für Islamische Kunst, the Vorderasiatisches Museum, the Bode-Museum and the Deutsches Historische Museum.
The Multaqa tours are free of charge, with participants only paying the regular individual entry price for the museum. If you are interested in organizing special tours or have other questions, please get in touch with the project managers Salma Jreige and Hussam Zahim Mohammed at: info@multaka.de .
