Michael Eissenhauer on the appointment of Neil MacGregor as future head of Humboldt Forum Advisory Board

This week Cultural Minister Monika Grütters officially announced the appointment of Neil MacGregor, current director of the British Museum in London, as head of the Humboldt-Forum Advisory Board. The Advisory Board will commence work in October 2015 and, for an initial period of two years, will focus on exhibition content and motivate and manage the interaction of all players involved in the Humboldt-Forum. Among those players is the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin (SMB) with their non-European collections: the Ethnologisches Museum and Museum für Asiatische Kunst.

In an official statement, Michael Eissenhauer, Director General of the SMB, welcomed Neil MacGregor’s appointment: 'This is good news for Berlin and the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin. The British Museum is one of the great universal museums in the world and is naturally one of our most important cooperation partners. The appointment of Neil MacGregor means that a greatly respected colleague will be joining us in Berlin. We have lots in common and have turned to him for advice on numerous occasions in recent years. We will miss having him as a reliable contact person in London - but are all the more delighted that he can undertake this important task in Berlin and bring his unique wealth of expertise to bear in the construction and realization of the Humboldt-Forum.’
