The children’s and youth magazine GEOlino has ranked the Museum Europäischer Kulturen (MEK, Museum of European Cultures) second among the nine best museums focusing on Europe. According to the magazine, the MEK particularly stands out for its diverse arrangements of objects from all over Europe that enrich visitors’ understanding of the ‘differences and commonalities between the various nations’.

The MEK places the historical and contemporary artefacts of its collection in the context of current debates, creating a vibrant image of the various cultures and cultural practices of Europe. The museum also actively engages in international cultural projects and museum networks, as well as in collaborations with migrant communities in Berlin.

Every year the MEK presents rotating special exhibitions. With a diverse programme of events, open laboratories and workshops related to the exhibitions, the MEK presents itself as a place of encounter for old and young. In intergenerational exhibits like ‘100 Percent Wool’ the museum explicitly addresses young visitors.
