Flow: The Exhibition on Menstration” was one of the Museum Europäischer Kulturen’s (MEK, Museum of European Cultures) most successful exhibitions. On view from October 2023 to March 2025, it attracted visitors from Germany and abroad. And that success continues, with several national and international museums interested in hosting the exhibition. From 10 October 2025, Flow is being shown under the title “Et leeft” with location-specific additions at the Lëtzebuerg City Museum in Luxembourg City. So anyone who missed the exhibition in Berlin now has another chance!

Flow: The Exhibition on Menstruation draws on objects from private collections and museums, interviews, music, film and art to visualise the past decades’ discourses and debates, tracing the developments of menstrual products from the late 19th century to the present and giving menstruating people a voice. Flow conveys a history of pragmatism and utopias, inventiveness and activism.

The exhibition brings together around 100 historical and very recent menstrual products and advertisements. Charts, interviews and hands-on exhibits communicate the current state of knowledge. With nearly 200 everyday objects, photos, graphics, newspaper articles and social media posts, the exhibition elucidates the discourses that have accompanied menstruating people for decades, covering topics such as performance, period poverty, waste, “normality”, closeness to nature, and mood.
