Kupferstichkabinett
“Prints can be compared to a form of Instagram before the internet was invented”, says Dagmar Korbacher, the new director of the Kupferstichkabinett (Museum of Prints and Drawings). She will explore exactly what this means when she and Instagrammer @uwa2000 perform a “takeover” of the Staatlichen Museen zu Berlin`s Instagram channel from 1 to 5 November 2018.
The truism that Old Masters’ prints and engravings are still quite relevant is one of the central statements advocated by art historian and Italian art expert Dagmar Krobacher, who will become the new director of the Kupferstichkabinett on 1 November 2018. As she takes up her post she will join Instagrammer Uwa Scholz (@uwa2000) for five days on the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin’s Instagram channel to show which differences and similarities exist between historical prints and modern photographs. After all, #selfies, #staircases and #blackandwhite-Bilder (B&W images) have been around for more than 400 years.
The action will conclude with a special event at the Kupferstichkabinett on 16 November 2018 when Dagmar Korbacher and Uwa Scholz will once again present and discuss their juxtopositions of prints and modern photographs. Registration for the event is via the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin’s Instagram channel.
