Museum Europäischer Kulturen
Léontine Meijer-van Mensch, born in Hilversum (Netherlands) in 1972, studied history and Jewish studies in Amsterdam, Berlin, and Jerusalem, as well as 'Protecting European Cultural Heritage’ in Frankfurt (Oder).
Her previous roles have included posts at the Jewish Museum in Berlin, at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder) as lecturer on protecting cultural heritage, arts and cultural management, and museology, and at the Collegium Polonicum in Słubice (Poland) as project coordinator of the graduate research programme 'Europa Fellows II’. For the last eight years she has worked as a lecturer and research fellow at the Reinwardt Academie (University of the Arts) in Amsterdam, where she has been conducting research into the theory, practice, and ethics of museums and cultural heritage.
In addition to her teaching posts, Léontine Meijer-van Mensch is active on the advisory boards of various museum-related organizations. In this capacity, she has chaired the International Committee for Collecting at the International Museum Council (ICOM) since 2010 and is a member of the International School of Museology in Celje, Slovenia. She is a frequent speaker at international events and has already worked with the Museum Europäischer Kulturen on several occasions before. We are therefore all the more delighted that Ms. Meijer-van Mensch will soon be joining the MEK’s team.
