07.12.2018 In collaboration with Google Arts & Culture and 17 other cultural institutions from 7 countries, the Gemäldegalerie has developed the online platform Meet Vermeer, now available to users worldwide.
Gemäldegalerie
With ultra-high resolution images of all the artist’s extant works, Meet Vermeer manages to accomplish what would never be possible in reality, bringing together Vermeer’s oeuvre for the first time and offering rare insights into his art.
The Gemäldegalerie is participating in the project with two paintings by Jan Vermeer: The Glass of Wine and Woman with a Pearl Necklace. Both works are featured under the section ‟In-Painting Tours” that guide the viewer through each painting, detail by detail. In addition Meet Vermeer is linked to several online exhibitions, which bring to life the provenance and object histories of the works in Berlin.
The Glass of Wine and Woman with a Pearl Necklace are currently on loan to the exhibition Making the Difference. Vermeer and Dutch Art in Tokyo. They will be on view again in Berlin’s Gemäldegalerie in mid-February 2019.
