Kunstgewerbemuseum
On 30 September 2021 the Kunstgewerbemuseum (Museum of Decorative Arts) and the Hochschule der Bildenden Künste Hamburg celebrate the release of the publication (How) do we (want to) work (together) (as (socially engaged) designers (students and neighbors)) (in neoliberal times)? Public Design Support / Öffentliche Gestaltungsberatung 2016-2021 with a book release party at the Floating University Berlin, Lilienthalstrasse 32 at 7 pm.
As part of Design Lab #6, Studio Experimentelles Design organised the three-week online research festival (How) do we (want to) work (together) (as (socially engaged) designers (students and neighbours)) (in neoliberalen Zeiten)? in summer 2020. Friends, experts and activists were invited to discuss self-organising academia, artistic collectivism, care work and creative self-exploitation. Talks, performances and readings explored the dilemmas of project logic, the radical expansion of precarity, alternatives to the formal economy, immaterial work in the context of aesthetic capitalism, the problems of an art strike, and new forms of subjective alienation.
Since 2019 the exhibition series Design Lab has invited various design labs, students and activists to present their current projects and to enter into dialogue with the Kunstgewerbemuseum collection. The series has been curated by Claudia Banz, curator of Design at the Kunstgewerbemuseum, and funded by the Kuratorium Preußischer Kulturbesitz (Board of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation).
