The Koreanisches Kulturzentrum and the Stiftung Preussischer Kulturbesitz have signed an agreement to invest in research related to the Korean collection of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin’s Museum für Asiatische Kunst. This funding for the Museum’s research work will also benefit the presentation of the items in the Korean collection. The Korean showcase is part of the Museum für Asiatische Kunst’s display on the third floor of the Humboldt Forum, which opened on 22 September 2021.

The agreement was made in the context of a project by the Republic of Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) to support exhibitions on Korean culture in foreign museums. As part of this project, the MCST has declared its intention to support the Museum für Asiatische Kunst for the next three years and to fund a curator position for the Museum’s Korean collection

The curator position funded by the MCST is to carry out comprehensive research work on the items in the Museum für Asiatische Kunst’s Korean collection, and also facilitate the drafting and implementation of a mid- to long-term collecting strategy. In addition to supporting the strategic evolution of the Korean showcase at the Humboldt Forum, the funding will support scholarly workshops and courses related to the Museum’s Korean collection, along with other exhibitions.
