KIEZ MEETS MUSEUM Presents the Project Results at Hamburger Bahnhof on 16 January 2019

14.01.2019
Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart

KIEZ MEETS MUSEUM ensures more participation by young people from structurally underdeveloped districts of Berlin in the city’s cultural life. Currently the projects Stell die Verbindung her (Link It Up) and Von Nagel zu Nagel – von Ort zu Ort (From Nail to Nail – From Place to Place) are being developed at the Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart – Berlin. The results will be presented on Wednesday, 16 January 2019, at 11 am at the Hamburger Bahnhof.

Stell die Verbindung her (Link It Up): An Audio guide for Young People by Young People

What can a young public discover in a museum? What stories do adolescents tell their friends about art? Which music do they think fits to the artworks? In Stell die Verbingung her students from the Schule an der Jungfernheide discover which connections exist between themselves and the artworks in a museum. They develop their own recorded segments for an audio guide with the support of a radio play author, an art educator and their teacher. The audio guide will be available free of charge to visitors to the Hamburger Bahnhof as of 16 January 2019.

Von Nagel zu Nagel – Von Ort zu Ort (From Nail to Nail – From Place to Place): A Photographic Exploration by Young Adults of Artists’ Self-Representations

As part of the workshop Von Nagel zu Nagel – Von Ort zu Ort, young adults examine the self-presentation practiced by artists and use those approaches as a starting point for developing photographic portrayals of themselves. The aim is to help the participants enter working life. They learn about various forms of self-representation implemented by artists, try out some of their own and experience themselves in different roles. They are supported by a film team, an artist, and a coordinator, as well as mentors from the Joblinge initiative.

KIEZ MEETS MUSEUM

The Nationalgalerie of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin and the Berliner Leben – a foundation of the Gewobag housing association – have been working together successfully since 2014. KIEZ MEETS MUSEUM is a continuation of the collaboration that began in 2016. Four projects for children, teenagers and young adults will take place each school year until mid-2020.

About the Stiftung Berliner Leben

With the founding of their Stiftung Berlin Leben in 2013, the Gewobag consolidated its commitment to continuous and sustainable development in many districts of Berlin. The foundation’s work focuses on promoting equal participation and intercultural integration into Berlin life. Stiftung Berliner Leben fosters art, culture and sport, as well as projects for adolescents and senior citizens.

Further information on the foundation is available online at www.stiftung-berliner-leben.de.

Education and Outreach at the Staatlichen Museen zu Berlin

The Education, Outreach, and Visitor Services Department is the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin’s central educational institution. It perceives itself as an expert source of school-based and extracurricular cultural education and deals explicitly with topics of cultural education for schools, children and young people. In addition to art appreciation, it is primarily the life experiences of the children and adolescents themselves and active-learning-oriented artistic methods that shape the exploration of the collections’ diverse themes. An additional goal is opening up the institutions to all social groups and including and actively involving all members of Berlin’s intercultural urban society.

Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart – Berlin

Opened in 1996, the Hamburger Bahnhof is home to the Museum für Gegenwart der Nationalgalerie and is now one of the largest museums of its kind in the world. Parallel to temporary exhibitions, the museum also displays works from the Nationalgalerie’s own collection, as well as the Marx Collection and the Friedrich Christian Flick Collection. These collections form the basis of rotating exhibitions presented under the overarching title Die Sammlungen. The Collections. Les Collections.
