Museum für Fotografie
Pictorialism may be considered one of the most multifaceted chapters in the history of photography. Internationally networked and in dialogue with painting, ambitious amateurs emerged on the scene in the 1880s with the goal of gaining recognition for photography as art.
The symposium will examine anew the Pictorialist movement from today’s perspective with the Kunstbibliothek’s Juhl Collection as its starting point. Renowned historians of photography and museum curators have been invited to discuss Pictorialism as the first internationally networked art photography movement.
Invited speakers include:
Patrizia di Bello London; Gabriele Betancourt Nuñez Hamburg; Dominique de Font-Réaulx Paris; Maria Gourieva St. Petersburg; Hanne Holm-Johnsen Horten; Christian Joschke Paris; Dagmar Keultjes Florence; Russell Lord New Orleans; David Martin Seattle; Michel Poivert Paris; Agnes Matthias Regensburg; Alison Nordström Rochester; Olga Sviblova Moscow.
The conference will be held in English.
