Museumsinsel Berlin
On Sunday, 18 June 2023, the Action Days “READY STEADY GO: Inclusive Museums!” begin on Museumsinsel Berlin (Museum Island). For an entire week, the Museumsinsel is the meeting place for athletes and sports lovers from around the world, who are visiting Berlin for the Special Olympic World Games. Workshops in the Kolonnadenhof (Colonnaded Courtyard) and exhibition talks invite visitors to explore the museums. All of the offers, held in simple language and with barrier-free accessibility, are designed to be inclusive. Team leaders with and without impairments lead groups of participants. Participation is free.
The highlights of the project are the Action Days taking place during the 2023 Special Olympic World Games in Berlin. Athletes and sports lovers from around the world are invited to get to know the Museumsinsel, where everything revolves around art and sports for six whole days. Four workshops guide visitors on a tour of discovery throughout the Museumsinsel: arrive, warm-up, take off, win! Exhibition talks explore the collections. Diverse offers are led by guides with and without disabilities. The meeting place is the Kolonnadenhof on the Museumsinsel Berlin. Offers are provided in simple language, with barrier-free accessibility. The programmes are free of charge and no advance registration is required.
The programme begins on Sunday, 18 June 2023, at 1 pm. The festival opens with Nicola Böcker-Giannini, State Secretary for Sports, Senatsverwaltung für Inneres, Digitalisierung und Sport, and Heike Kropff, head of the Department of Education/Communications at the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin. The ensemble Junges RambaZamba Theater (RZt) presents a dance performance. Workshops and exhibition talks are also included. As the week unfolds, 20‒24 June 2023, workshops and guided tours take place daily from 2‒5 pm.
The Action Days are a part of the “READY STEADY GO: Inclusive Museums!” project, which the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin have realised since the beginnng of 2022. Our goal is to develop offers as well as an infrastructure and communications structure, which aims for a sustainable, inclusive use of the museums. Early steps in achieving this goal are being made by the Museumsinsel Berlin with the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin’s Haus Bastian – Centre for Cultural Education, in cooperation with associations, clubs and other organisations that strive for inclusivity in the work they do.
The project “READY STEADY GO: Inclusive Museums!” intends to generate more visibility for inclusion and to foster participation. Further building blocks of the project are monthly meetings of the “Arbeitskreis: Kunst und Inklusion” (Work Group: Art and Inclusion) and the discussion series “SET #13”, both of which contribute to the exchange and development of networks that go beyond institutions. In addition, continuing education programmes sensitised to these issues and inclusive family workshops are offered on Sundays at Haus Bastian.
“READY STEADY GO: Inclusive Museums!” is funded by the Senatsverwaltung für Inneres und Sport.
