12.01.2019
Generaldirektion

Günther Schauerte’s ties to the Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz (Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation) go back a long way. He served the Stiftung for more than thirty years. In 1986 Schauerte became a consultant to the general director of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, a post he held until being appointed its scientific director in 1998 and then deputy general director in 2002. Prof. Dr Günther Schauerte has been the vice president of the Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz since 2011.

Archaeologist Schauerte proved himself an excellent cultural and scientific manager in various offices. His academic focus was on ancient cultures of the Near East. During his term as vice president, Schauerte acted as co-curator of the exhibitions Faces of the Orient: Encounters with Early Jordanian Cultures, Richard Lepsius, and Babylon: Myth and Truth; carried out excavations in Germany and Jordan; and was the Stiftung’s deputy project manager for the EU Twinning project with the Georgian National Museum.

At the end of December 2018, staff and associates bid farewell to Schauerte as he entered his well-deserved retirement. His successor as vice president will be lawyer Gero Dimter.
