The German-American Provenance Research Exchange Program (PREP) will hold its 2018 exchanges in Los Angeles and Munich. The deadline for applications is September 15, 2017.
The three-year joint program run by the SPK and the Smithsonian Institution is aimed at provenance researchers, curators, archivists, and other museum professions. PREP particularly welcomes applications from researchers and curators at museums with Asian art, decorative arts, and works on paper.
A separate application process will take place each year. The twenty-one members of each year’s cohort will meet at two workshops, one in the U.S. and one in Germany.
Following a successful kick-off meeting in New York in February 2017, the first cohort will meet again in Berlin in September 2017.
Major support for PREP comes from the German Program for Transatlantic Encounters, financed from European Recovery Program funds provided by the late Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi). This program continues to promote the ideas of George C. Marshall, who advocated support of transatlantic partnerships to foster mutual understanding. Additional financial support comes from Germany’s Federal Commission for Culture and Media (BKM), the Smithsonian Women’s Committee, and the program’s six key partners.
