Mr and Mrs Kaupmannsennecke have generously donated the painting Men by the Fireplace by Paula Monjé to the Nationalgalerie Collection. Until 8 March 2020, the painting will be on display in the exhibition Fighting for Visibility in the Alte Nationalgalerie.
Christina Haak, Deputy Director-General of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, and Ralph Gleis, Director of the Alte Nationalgalerie yesterday met with Renate and Hans Kaupmannsenecke in the exhibition Fighting for Visibility: Women Artists in the Nationalgalerie before 1919. The Kaupmannsenneckes donated the large-format painting Men by the Fireplace, painted in 1904 by artist Paula Monjé, to the Nationalgalerie Collection.
This generous donation does not just complement the early work by Paula Monjé that was already held by the collection, it also helps to compensate for the painful loss of a work by the artist during the war.
