Friedrich Christian Flick donates 104 works of contemporary art to the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin’s Nationalgalerie

Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart

To coincide with his 70th birthday, Friedrich Christian Flick has presented the Nationalgalerie with 104 works of contemporary art for display at its Hamburger Bahnhof site. It is already the second such donation within a matter of a few short years. In 2008, Flick endowed 166 works to the museum.

In addition to that initial donation, the Hamburger Bahnhof has now received a swathe of significant works by 50 international artists, including  Absalon, David Claerbout, Stan Douglas, Dan Graham, Rodney Graham, Candida Höfer, Paul McCarthy, Jason Rhoades, Pipilotti Rist, Anri Sala, Thomas Schütte, Diana Thater, and Franz West. The new accessions now mean that the Nationalgalerie owns whole work groups by the above-mentioned artists. Included in the endowment are also several key works or series by Nathalie Djurberg, Brian O'Doherty, Peter Fischli / David Weiss, Katharina Fritsch, Raoul de Keyser, Manfred Pernice, Cindy Sherman, and Thomas Struth, which augment the Nationalgalerie's previous holdings of their art.

The donation will be officially presented to the public in autumn 2015, in a major show planned for the Hamburger Bahnhof - Museum für Gegenwart - Berlin.
