Photography Unites: Three Institutions, Two Sites, One Collaboration

Museum für Fotografie

From 1 June 2016, C/O Berlin, the Kunstbibliothek – Staatliche Museen zu Berlin and the Helmut Newton Stiftung will be broadening their collaborative and programming efforts.

Ever since C/O Berlin's relocation to Charlottenburg in autumn 2014, three internationally renowned institutions for photography have been situated near Bahnhof Zoo: C/O Berlin on Hardenbergstraße, and the Helmut Newton Stiftung and Museum für Fotografie on Jebensstraße. This close proximity of three photography institutions is unique throughout the world. And the outcomes of the resulting exchanges between them have now been made available to the public in various formats for the first time.

Thematic Cooperation

Private versus public, freedom versus control – with digitalisation increasing, the role of visual media in surveillance and transparency has been a major social issue for quite some time. That is why C/O Berlin and the Museum für Fotografie will be presenting three thematically connected exhibitions with historical and contemporary artistic approaches in spring 2017.

Joint Curator Tours

The curators from C/O Berlin, the Kunstbibliothek's Photography Collection (which is housed and presented at the Museum für Fotografie) and the Helmut Newton Stiftung are offering joint tours of their collections on the first Thursday of every month. They will be presenting a selection of new and related photographs from the separate exhibitions and leading a comprehensive discussion on the images.

The following tours have been scheduled:

  •  2 June 2016 with Ludger Derenthal
  • 7 July 2016 with Matthias Harder
  • 4 August 2016 with Ann-Christin Bertrand
  • 1 September 2016 with Ludger Derenthal

The meeting place for each tour is the foyer of C/O Berlin, at 18:00.

Discounted Entry

Visitors who would like to see the exhibitions at C/O Berlin and the Museum für Fotografie on the same day will receive a discount of 2 euros off the normal price and 1 euro off the concession price at the institution visited second.

Extended opening hours at the Museum für Fotografie

The Museum für Fotografie is extending its hours and will be open on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 to 19:00, as well as on Thursday from 11:00 to 20:00. As always, C/O Berlin is open daily from 11:00 to 20:00.
