First EU Twinning Project

30.08.2010

In June 2009 the National Museums in Berlin, together with the Foundation of Prussian Cultural Heritage, chose to participate in the Europe-wide competition for the twinning project sponsored by the European Union, entitled: 'Support to the Institutional Development of the Georgian National Museum'.

A few weeks ago the EU-funded administrative partnership with the Georgian National Museum got underway in Tbilisi. The German Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning (BBR) is a partner to the National Museums in Berlin in the venture. The aim of the two-year project is to strengthen the Georgian National Museum, in particular with regard to the sustainable preservation and long-term public awareness of Georgian cultural heritage. On top of a long-term advisor from the National Museums in Berlin, already dispatched to Tbilisi for the duration of the project, a further 40 members of staff from the German side are expected to be involved in the ongoing consultations, due to be held mostly in Georgia itself.
